Dave Ward, Advisory Board
Dave Ward has been a radio and television broadcaster for 51 years. He was born in Dallas, grew up in Huntsville and moved to Houston in 1962 where he worked for KNUZ Radio as a news reporter and News Director for four years. Dave made the move to Channel 13 in 1966, and by 1968 he had become the news anchor of the 6 o'clock and 10 o'clock newscasts. Dave has been the television news anchor that viewers of ABC 13 have welcomed into their homes on the 6 o'clock and 10 o'clock newscasts for the past 42 years.

To try to encapsulate Dave's community service is almost impossible. He has lent his expertise at the microphone, with his commanding voice and his stately presence, to serve as master of ceremonies of charitable and civic events too numerous to mention. Having Dave involved with an organization's fundraiser, adding his prestige, talent and professionalism, adds immeasurably to the overall success of the event. There is hardly a non-profit organization in the city that has not benefited from Dave's open-hearted, generosity of spirit and his willingness to serve the cmunity.

Dave was instrumental in establishing Crime Stoppers of Houston, which has become the model of excellence for similar programs across the country; he also served as its first on-air reporter. He is past president of Houston Easter Seals Society and has hosted several Easter Seals telethons. He is a past member of the Public Affairs Advisory Board of the Houston Business Council, Public Information Committee of the American Cancer Society, the Board of Directors of the Leukemia Society and the Press Club of Houston. He is a Lifetime Member of the 100 Club of Houston, Endowed Lifetime Member of Partnership for Baylor College of Medicine, and a Lifetime Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He is a board member of the Houston Police Foundation and on the Advisory Board of the Houston Children's Charity.

In 1973 Dave received the City of Houston Public Service Award for his work on the Managua earthquake, and he recalls fondly that Mayor Louis Welch handed him the plaque. He won a regional Emmy for Art/Entertainment Special Programs and received the Leon Goldstein Award in 2002 for outstanding service in Fighting Crime from Crime Stoppers, Inc. He and Laura were honored at the Assistance League of Houston Gala in 2009.
Dave Ward has distinguished himself not only as the longest running television anchor in the city of Houston, but he holds that same distinction nationwide; no other news anchor has been on the same newscast program as long as Dave. In addition, Dave Ward has distinguished himself as one of Houston's most dedicated public servants.
