Houston’s Children’s Charity

The years had passed a decade now
As love once more was shared
Young families to the Hyatt trekked
For joy now uncompared

The volunteers much earlier
To Edna’s warehouse came
To sort those special Christmas toys
Marines would do the same

And though deployment would reduce
The brave and too the proud
Each thought brought their remembrance
And words of thanks out loud

As always lists were piled high
With wishes to be filled
And every item would be found
These dreams of hope instilled

Then all were placed within a truck
So later Sunday morn
They’d bring a bit of Christmas cheer
To spirits here reborn

Then volunteers most numerous
Prepared the celebration
Where happiness is evermore
And constant the elation

And well behaved was everyone
Both Clutch and Santa Claus
As once again true love was shared
The reason “Just Because”

The PAL kids sang the clowns all joked
The Diamond ladies danced
As children’s laughter filled this room
Their dreams were all romanced

It was an extra special year
This year two thousand ten
As H. C. C. did share their hearts
With Christmas once again
