Candy Buy Back Benefitting HCC
Dr. Tabakman of West Houston Orthodontics held a Candy Buy Back event on November 1, 2012 at his Houston-based orthodontic practice. "We bought back the candy from our patients and surrounding community members in an effort to promote proper diet while in orthodontic treatment. Then we picked a charity we feel strongly about and donated the candy to that organization. Having worked with the Houston Children's Charity previously, we know that as a nonprofit organization, the charity relies on donations from community members to be able to help Houston children who are abused, under privileged and disabled. It is with great pride and pleasure that Houston Orthodontist, Dr. Vladimir Tabakman has been able to donate candy for HCC's Annual Christmas party.

Payton Rae and 3union
Through Indiegogo.com and iTunes, teen stars enlist the help of their fans to raise money for area charities.
This holiday season, several rising music stars - brother trio 3union and teen country artist Payton Rae - have teamed up for a benefit project, believing, as they've said to their fans, that "together, we can make a difference this holiday season."
The project: 3union and Payton Rae have recorded a cover of the Boys Like Girls/Taylor Swift single "Two Is Better Than One." By downloading the single - either at crowd funding site Indiegogo or iTunes - fans will be donating money to provide a special holiday for children in need. Renowned formal wear designer/manufacturer ALYCE Paris - who recently named Payton Rae as their new spokeswoman for the upcoming year - has added a bonus for those donating at Indiegogo: a contribution of $5 or more earns the donor a chance to win one of three dresses donated from the famed design house.
The funds raised will benefit three charities: Shepherd Community Center in Indianapolis (3union's hometown), Houston Children's Charity in Houston, Texas (Payton's hometown) and in the town where Payton works, Nashville, the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Individuals and businesses/companies who want to donate money - in any amount - to this cause through Indiegogo can go to the "Two Is Better Than One" page at that site: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/266037?a=1687843. Those wishing to download the single via iTunes, where all the profits from the sale of the single will go to this holiday charity project, can go here.
3union is an electro/alternative/rock band of brothers who love performing and playing their music for any audience. Their first CD, "Say It Now," was released in July of 2009; their latest project, the 5-song EP "Our Mom Thinks We're Good," was released in December of 2011. 3union appeared on the 2011 Van's Warped Tour as winners in the Ernie Ball Stage "Battle of the Bands," and had an opening slot with Keith Urban and 'American Idol' champ Kris Allen. They recently joined the staff of A.C.T., International based out of Nashville, joined the "Camplified" Tour during the summer, and this fall, are taking a break from touring to attend a 4-month term at the Forerunner Music Academy in Kansas City.
"Christmas is a time of giving, and we're thrilled to partner with Payton Rae and our fans to make this Christmas special for families in need," said 3union's Shaun Boyd.
Teen star Payton Rae's career is growing by leaps and bounds, with powerful social media stats that include 160,000 Twitter followers, 75,000 Facebook fans and more than 12 MILLION YouTube views. Her latest single, "Stomp The Fire Out," is currently climbing the country music charts. Payton was recently selected as one of the Top 100 "Artists on the Verge" for The New Music Seminar (NMS) - the only country artist on the list, as well. The five songs on her debut EP, DARE TO LIVE, were recorded in Nashville; DARE TO LIVE boasts the talents of many well-known songwriters from the Music City community.
Teen star Payton Rae first met 3union when she, too, was part of this summer's "Camplified" tour, which showcases emerging teen stars, performers and youth targeted brands at over 30 summer camps, giving more than 35,000 campers, ages 6-17, a unique, age appropriate concert experience.
"To be able to come together with 3union and our fans to make a difference is a huge blessing," said Payton Rae. "We want to make people smile this Christmas, and make it one to remember for as many as we can."
Shepherd Community Center works with neighborhood youth and their families to break the cycle of poverty by cultivating healthier children, stronger families, and safer neighborhoods through supportive relationships that meet the physical, emotional, academic and spiritual needs of area residents.
Houston Children's Charity is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Greater Houston's under-privileged, abused, and handicapped children who have been otherwise left behind.
Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, a freestanding hospital dedicated to serving only children, is nationally recognized as a leading provider of pediatric health care services. Experts treat and work to prevent all health issues ranging from common childhood conditions to serious, advanced diseases. In addition, Children's Hospital is a top-level teaching and research facility. No child is denied care on basis of limited ability to pay.

"Kool Kidz" 1st family
Houston is the largest city in the state of Texas and the fourth-largest in the United States. Last summer, Houston broke the 1980 record of 32 days over 100 degrees and ended up with 46 days over 100 degrees.
In a city this size, it's an inevitable fact that a large number of Houston's most needy families do not have an air conditioner; and in some cases, no air conditioner at all. That's why Houston Children's Charity developed the "Kool Kidz" program. This program allows families the opportunity to stay cool during the hot summer months.
On the floor of Toyota Center on April 26, 2012 HCC launched this exciting program during halftime. Marcus & Trasity McCloney, Denise Hagan and Robert Skinner were the very 1st recipients of an AC window unit from the "Kool Kidz" program. What an exciting evening for everyone!
Houston Children's Charity would like to thank our "Kool Kidz" partners BMC Software, Home Depot, Houston Rockets and Reliant.

Houston Zombie Walk
The Houston Zombie Walk is exactly what it sounds like. We are a facilitator group hosting an annual walk for charity in the fall to break open the Halloween season! The walk itself is structured the same as any walk/run for charity. Ours happens to be themed, and it's one heck of a party! Our goal is to give back to our supporters as much as we give to our charities. At each annual event we give you a sweet concert! We are the ONLY Zombie Walk in Texas that runs year-round!
The format is simple. We gather at Jones Plaza on October 27th for vendors and photos somewhere around 5:30-6pm. There are plenty of photo ops and vendors to partake in. Around 7, the gates open and we do a mile walk around downtown and the bayou in the Theater District. Everyone arrives back to Jones, and we put on a free concert for you! This year it's THE SPAZMATICS for an 80′s themed dance party! The city shuts us down at 10pm. Then we head to the after party! More on that part coming soon.
Huge amounts of time and energy were expended to bring zombies and other zombie walks out of the suburbs and into where they belong, downtown Houston! Founded in 2010 by a group with other zombie walk experience, we strive to bring our followers the biggest "bang for your buck" with your donations to our charities! We have corporate sponsors, but that's to cover the overhead. Your ticket price is a direct donation to our charities.
Who does the Houston Zombie Walk Benefit? We are pleased to announce that the 2012 proceed recipients are the Houston Children's Charity, Spay/Houston, and Dove Key Ranch Wildlife Rehab! Yay! |

BMW 2012 Gala Title Sponsors
This is Momentum BMW's fifth anniversary celebrating our sponsorship of Houston Children's Charity. We look forward to this all year, and every year we try to outdo ourselves a little more. This year, we want to help the Houston Children's Charity even more than we ever have before, and we have really done something special. We have donated a brand-new 2012 BMW 328i.
Are you ready for a BMW 3-series capable of automatic hands-off parallel parking? A Bimmer smart enough to teach you hypermiling, one equipped with enough onboard cameras to scout locations for Warner Bros.? Welcome to the 2012 328i, BMW's stab at charming the More Generation. The fifth-gen 3-series greeted its driver with a secret handshake: high-effort steering that bends the car smartly into every corner with total authority over body motion. BMW's new 2.0-liter four-cylinder powering the 328i sounds like a throwback to simpler times, but that impression vanishes the first time its twin-scroll turbo pumps up 18.9 psi of boost and output swells to 240 hp at 5000 rpm. What this engine lacks in cylinder-count prestige, it more than makes up for with what might be a world record for vigor per gallon.
Houston Children's Charity means so much to us and all of our staff. I hope this brand new 2012 328i helps raise more money than ever for the children. There's really never been a better excuse to buy the BMW of your dreams when you can help children while you are doing it. It's all for a good cause.

Valero Texas Open Launches 90th Birthday Celebration
The Valero Texas Open officially teed off its 90th birthday celebration by announcing a series of events and promotions that will take place in the weeks leading up to the 2012 tournament.
The announcement came before the start of a Past Champion's Pro-Am at Brackenridge Park Golf Course to commemorate the inaugural Texas Open, held at "Old Brack" in February, 1922.
"We want the Valero Texas Open's 90th Celebration to be something the entire family can enjoy", said Tournament Chairman, Dean Lammert. "And we wanted to use our 90th celebration platform as a way to say THANK YOU to the San Antonio community for supporting us for so many years".
In keeping with that spirit of thanks, officials from the Valero Energy Foundation and Golf San Antonio launched the 90th Celebration Campaign with a Charity Golf Ball Drop. 523 golf balls, each representing a charity supported by the Valero Texas Open, were dropped from a helicopter hovering over Brackenridge Park. Contributions totaling $50,000 were divided among charities whose golf balls landed closest to the target. Congratulations to Houston Children's Charity for winning $750.00 in this event.
Valero's commitment to giving back to the community is what drives them to help make each year's tournament a success. In fact, The Valero Texas Open and Valero Texas Open Benefit for Children have given more than $50M to charities since it began.
About the Valero Texas Open
The Valero Texas Open is the 5th oldest tournament in golf world-wide, the 3rd oldest on the PGA TOUR and the longest held in the same city; making San Antonio the oldest host city on TOUR. Eight different golf courses in San Antonio have hosted the Texas Open; including Ft. Sam Houston, which is the only military base golf course host a PGA TOUR event. During its history, the Texas Open has had four title sponsors: HEB (1990-1993); USAA Real Estate Company (1995-1997), Westin Hotels & Resorts (1998-2000); and its current and longest running partner, Valero Energy Corporation (2002 - Present).
Its list of champions includes some of the greatest names in golf: Walter Hagen, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Jack Burke Jr., Arnold Palmer, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Ben Crenshaw, Hale Irwin, Lee Trevino, Corey Pavin, Mark O'Meara, Nick Price, Justin Leonard, Zach Johnson and Adam Scott, to name a few.
The 2012 Valero Texas Open is scheduled for April 16-22 at the Greg Norman designed AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio and the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa.
